Overview
The LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI Test Executives are
multipurpose add-on packages for automated test execution.
Using the Test Executive, you can control test sequence execution
for production and manufacturing test applications. The Test
Executive includes a ready-to-run test executive application that
you can either use as delivered or customize to meet your specific
requirements and standards.
Technician Level
Users of the Test Executive with technician-level access can loop
on individual tests or sequences for diagnostic purposes in the
testing environment.
Developer Level
With developer-level access, you can create, edit, and run test
sequences from the Test Executive.
Limit checking and test dependencies give you complete
control of your testing process. Using an intuitive dependency
editor, you can specify a set of passes or failures of previous tests
required for a given test to run. You can also set Goto flags in your
test sequences to jump to specified tests in your sequence at run
time. Each test has a Run Action attribute that can be set to Skip,
Pass, or Fail, so you can develop and debug test sequences
without being connected to the actual test hardware. You
configure these options using the Sequence and Preconditions
Editors included with the toolkit. All test sequence information is
stored in test sequence files for retrieval on the actual test system.
Ready-to-Run Test Executive
Application
The Test Executive includes a ready-to-run test executive
application that you can use immediately for your automated test
application. This application includes capabilities such as:
• Test sequencing based upon pass/fail results
• Logging of test results
• Report generation
• Three-level password-protected access
• System and individual test set up and shutdown routines
• Calling tests developed in any language
The ready-to-run Test Executive is built around an intuitive,
multilevel user interface for displaying test results, operator and
UUT serial number prompts, pass/fail banners, and run-time error
reporting. Access to varying levels of functionality in the Test
Executive is controlled through three login password levels.
Customizable User Interface
The LabVIEW and LabWIndows/CVI Test Executives are written
in the native LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI interactive
programming environments. You receive the operator interface
source code with the Test Executive application. The ready-to-
run Test Executive program gives you direction on how to make
common modifications to the operator interface so you do not
have to start from scratch. Much of the low-level test sequence-
handling manipulation is performed in the Test Executive
Operator Level
Operators have access to a single-window user interface for loading
test sequences, running test sequences, and displaying test results.

Generate ASCII
reports from
your test results.
Automatically
store test results
to a database.
Create test
sequences using the
Sequence Editor.
Set dependencies for
test execution in the
Dependency Editor.
Build Advanced Test Systems
The Test Executive includes many features for building advanced
test systems, such as hierarchical sequence execution, complex
branching and looping capabilities, and automatic database
storage of test results. And, because you can customize many
different components of the Test Executive, you can create your
own test execution environment to meet the specific requirements
of your organization.
Engine, a separate library on which the Test Executive is built.
The Test Executive includes example test sequences and test
source code so you can quickly learn how the Test Executive works
and start building your own test sequences. In addition, a collection
of test templates is included in source code. They illustrate commonly
used testing operations to help you get started.
Call Tests Developed in Any Language
With the LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI Test Executive, you can
call tests developed in any language. You can choose the test
development environment that best meets your needs
and call tests developed in LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI,
ComponentWorks, C/C++, Visual Basic, or a DLL written in any
language.
Additionally, if you have legacy test programs that you want to
continue using while you upgrade your test system, you can
launch these executables from a test to call your existing test
programs from the Test Executive and minimize the impact of the
transition to a modern test management system.
